How Leaders Affect the Performance of Teams

The power and effects of true teamwork seem to be common knowledge among many disciplines, and yet, coalescing a group of people into a “team” is a mysterious process to most and one that academics alone does not, and maybe cannot, answer. Within our research, there is a common element affecting the function of a group that determines its eligibility, and its fruition as a “team”. The stairway to effective communicationThe leaders influencing a team always play a key role in the team’s performance. The form of discourse high performing individuals have within a team often determines the effectiveness of the team [1].  Reluctant and non-positional leaders can sometimes be the catalysts to unite a team through using values based dialogues to engage others around the cause of the team [2]. In examining the personal qualities of leadership, we see common, easily measurable factors such as initiative and decisiveness. However, the difficult factors to measure, such as mindset, pre-suppositions, attitude, emotional state, are often, only felt by team members and are the keys to effective activity. Only the alignment of correct principles and correct activity will produce the desired results. Those effects always emanate from a leader or leaders. Whether it is success or failure, winning, losing, or just good or bad, teams are not teams without leaders. And the affect those leaders have will always determine a team’s performance. You might say it is social capital within a team.

Achieve The Leadership You Want

We believe you can achieve anything you want in life by knowing how and why to build and leverage high yield personal networks. By high yield we mean, high trust, and high performance, inferring character and competence, along with social skills.

Six Degrees of Separation refers to the idea that anyone is only an average of six “introductions” away from each person on Earth. Although the theory seems to hold water, very few of us actually have the personal leadership skills to build out our six degrees and leverage those relationships for results in our lives and the world.

Grand Central Leadership Station

Six Degrees Leadership is about helping people become aware of the value they already behold. We look at the motivation and leadership training that procures the self-confidence and life skills leading to the development and utilization of the networks that already exist in our lives. Through this, we come into alignment with the principles shaping the new globalized economy. We come to truly understand Social Capital.

We are embarking on a unique and profound journey of personal and professional leadership development, team building, and effective communication designed to help individuals and organizations reach a level of perspective and community development that is critical to their success and fulfillment into today’s constantly changing world.

Find your Noble Cause and Don’t Let It Die With You!

When we discuss leadership skills, we are talking about the principles necessary for building and leveraging Social Capital. The building and leveraging of high performance personal networks. Whether your are building an intra-organizational network to make life better at work or a inter-organizational network as a CEO of a Fortune 100 company, the same principles apply.

Touching the Leadership LightWhen we talk about Social Capital we are talking about an idea that is transformational to all of your relationships. The concept itself is referring to effective relationships. Think about it, to have truly effective relationships you don’t just develop new techniques to manipulate people to serve your needs. There is an instrumental component in the context of Social Capital that brings forth human empathy. Meaning, that your overarching purpose, vision or goal is about enhancing or improving the human condition. Sometimes that entails the achievement of personal success goals and sometimes it doesn’t. There is an experience of fulfillment that only a noble purpose provides. It is my belief that every person who has every lived has a noble purpose within them, even if it was never recognized or lived. Find your Noble Cause and don’t let it die with you
